On Saturday, we celebrated Lizzy's first birthday along with my parents & Lizzy's surrogate aunties & uncle. We had originally planned a huge, elaborate party, but with her recent hospitalization, we decided to keep it low-key this year.
My brother flew down on Thursday & was a party decor genius when it came to rigging up all of the decorations.
We stayed up until 2am Friday night putting everything together, but it was so worth it!
The 'Happy Birthday Lizzy' banner was cut with my Silhouette Cameo. We made the tassel garland & doily banners. The ceiling decor was all from Martha Stewart.
We kept the rest simple, with some flowers and a big 'e' on the table, which I covered in the Maggie Holmes collection by Crate Paper.
First, we had a nice dinner. Salmon en croute with parsley sauce, potatoes with creme fraiche & veggies. Lizzy sat at the head of the table, naturally.
Although Lizzy loves pureed green beans, she wasn't too sure about the bean itself.
Then, we ate cake.
I have to say, I was really proud of the way the cake turned out. It was pink ombre vanilla cake on the inside, with cream and raspberries between each layer and vanilla buttercream icing.
The birthday girl got her own cupcake. She enjoyed playing with the icing more than eating it!
After dinner, we took some photos of the birthday girl in her pretty teacup dress.
This little girl has captured so many hearts in her short little life, and this photo is a perfect explanation why.
Then we opened presents. Toby helped, too. Lizzy got so many wonderful gifts from friends & relatives near and far.
After presents, it was time for bath & bed for Lizzy, and after all of the prep, Mommy passed out too. Before bed, I snapped this photo of the clean kitchen & thanked God for all that he had given us.
We are truly blessed.
