Spellbinders Say Cheese Classic Mouse: Steamboat Willie Livestream Cards
/Hello, friend! I’m so glad you stopped by my blog today. Earlier, I went live on YouTube to share the new Say Cheese Classic Mouse collection, a collaboration between Spellbinders & Simple Stories! This fun & classic collection features my favorite mouse in dies, stamps, and press plates! Click ‘watch on YouTube’ below to watch the livestream on replay in a new tab, hit the thumbs up button, and leave a comment on the video!
Take a look at a few of the cards I started in my video:
Although I showed the entire collection, today I focused on using the Steamboat Willie Press Plate & Die Set, which I love so much, and I used it in three different ways! Let’s look at each card a bit closer.
I started off by using the press plate with my BetterPress system! Using BetterPress paper for maximum effect, I ink blended a rainbow of four colors: Pimento, Buttercup, Tidepool, and Harbor from Concord & 9th. Once the colors were blended, I spritzed the cardstock with water using a Mighty Mister Spray Bottle, then set the cardstock aside. Once it was dry, I prepped the plate by inking it up with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink and pressed the rainbow cardstock.
To finish off the card, I die cut the pressed panel with the Perfect Touch Rectangles and Tag Etched Dies before adhering to my card base using 1mm foam adhesive. I typically keep a lot of foiled sentiments on hand, and this ‘hello friend’ from the Hexi-Gem Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate & Die Set was just perfect! Just three Essentials Gems in Peach, Aura, and Aquamarine finished off the card.
While the paper on my first card was drying, I heated my Glimmer platform to try out the Steamboat Willie Press Plate & Die Set with foil! I used Cascade cardstock and black Glimmer foil, which isn’t as shiny as the typical metallic foils. After the livestream, I created my card by die cutting the foiled design with the Everlasting Circles Etched Dies, then adhering it to black cardstock.
For my sentiment, I used the Frame & Sentiments Etched Dies, which includes fun sentiments in circles, stars, and hearts! I cut a few stars from the new Antique White Assorted Treasured Cardstock. These cardstocks are just amazing, and they die cut perfectly! I paired the Cascade cardstock with a classic Poppy and Saffron combination to make those colors pop against black. A few Onyx Essential Gems finished off the card.
On the final card, I used a new-to-me technique: stamping with BetterPress onto smooth, white cardstock so that I could color with my OLO Markers! I set up the Steamboat Willie Press Plate onto my BetterPress system and inked it up with Lawn Fawn Jet Black Premium Dye Ink, an alcohol marker-friendly ink. Then it was time to color, and what a fun illustration it was to color! Here are the OLO Marker colors I used:
All red: R0.5, R0.6; Gold: O1.2, O1.3; Blue hat & shoes: B4.6, B4.7; Blue water: B0.2, B0.3; Bird: OR1.3, YG2.3; Wood: OR7.2, OR7.4, OR7.6
When it comes to coloring, I am still learning, but this was a fun and easy illustration to color. After the livestream, I cut out the pressed design with the Mirrored Arch Labels Etched Dies, then framed that with another piece cut from Celestial carstock. To add texture to the card front, I used Fawn cardstock and this month’s Embossing Folder of the Month, called Mariner’s Weave. It felt fitting for this illustration. I finished off the card with a ‘Just Saying Hello’ sentiment stamped using the Clear Stamp of the Month, then three Prism Color Essentials Gems.
Wow, what a fun crafty session this was, but I have MORE to create! I started another card that I’ll finish off once I receive one additional die set, and I have more ideas to share! I’m sure I’ll be back next month to get crafty with you and this collection again! Oh boy!
Thanks for stopping by and watching today’s livestream! Be sure to find all of the products shown in the video, and used to create these cards after the livestream below! Happy creating!
