Gina K. Designs 12 Days of Christmas: Day 01 Inspiration!
/Welcome to Day 01 of the Gina K. Designs 12 Days of Christmas celebration! I’m so excited to be kicking things off as Gina’s first guest designer to share the beautiful surprise tucked into today’s envelope, and two cards I created using it in a new YouTube process video! When I opened the envelope, I found the most stunning ornate frame die—full of delicate detail and so many creative possibilities. I couldn’t wait to start crafting with it! I began by cutting the frame from Petunia cardstock, and to give such an intricate design a bit more stability, I layered three die cuts together using Connect Glue applied with a light touch. This gave the frame just the right amount of weight to sit perfectly on my card front.
While working with the die, I realized it also creates a lovely rectangle from the center, which sparked the idea to add a contrasting color. I chose Innocent Pink for a soft pop and stamped a classic “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Spring Clusters stamp set using Petunia ink. To help it shine, I added clear embossing powder over embossing ink for a subtle glossy finish. With my sentiment ready, I centered both pieces onto my A2 card base using a T-ruler and Mint Tape, then built a simple but elegant embellishment using a Spring Clusters Poly Glaze foiled floral. A bit of ink blending on the flower and leaves using the coordinating Spring Clusters stencil brought it to life, and a few Clear Quartz sequins completed this delicate, feminine design.
But I wasn’t done yet! While crafting, I had another idea—turning this ornate frame into a shaker card! Since the frame matches the dimensions of the Master Layouts 18 18-frame die, the two pair beautifully. I created a layered frame with white cardstock and Tranquil Teal, added acetate, and built a shaker window backed with Micro Disco Ball sequins.
For the focal point, I used the Flower Medley Poly Glaze sheets, die, and stencil to create a dimensional corner floral cluster, finished with a layered sentiment stamped in Cadet Blue. It’s amazing how different the ornate frame looks when transformed into a bold, interactive element.
I loved creating both of these cards using the Day 01 die, and I hope they inspire you to try something new with your 12 Days of Christmas box! If you recreate either design, I’d love to see it—share your project and tag me online. And don’t forget to check out the supplies I used at the thumbnails below!
