Spellbinders Stitchmas Day Six: A Frosty Friend

Welcome back, friends! It’s time for day six of the 12 Days of Stitchmas—a festive advent-style celebration from Spellbinders that brings together two of my favorite things: cardmaking and stitching! Every day for these 12 days, I’ll be sharing a new Instagram Reel and a new card created with these adorable stitching dies, so be sure to follow me over on Instagram!

Today’s die set features one of the cutest characters in the entire advent—a squishy, bundled-up polar bear with a stitched tummy and a two-part scarf. He even comes with separate backers for his face and ears, plus a tiny stitched snowflake to complete the wintry look!

To bring this chilly friend to life, I stitched his tummy with a soft, greige thread—warm, neutral, and perfect for winter crafting. For his scarf, I chose a teal cardstock and used navy embroidery thread to add contrast and visual depth. The result is so cozy and sweet!

To set the scene, I reached for the Warm & Woven Stencil Set from the July 2025 Stencil of the Month Club. This set includes four main stencils that build a sweater-inspired pattern, plus a fifth stencil of knit details if you want to add even more texture.

I went with a monochromatic Distress Ink palette to create a frosty, winter-knit backdrop:

  • Speckled Egg

  • Salvaged Patina

  • Evergreen Bough

  • Uncharted Mariner

Layering these inks through each stencil step created the most beautiful gradient of soft winter blues—perfect for my chilly little bear.

Once my background was fully inked and dry, I used the Mirrored Arched Label Dies to create a central focal point. I paired this with a banner greeting cut from the Handmade Sentiments die set. This arch gave the polar bear a perfect place to shine without competing with the busy background.

After adhering him in place, I added a sprinkle of sparkle by die-cutting tiny snowflakes from Antique White Glitter Treasured Cardstock. They catch the light beautifully without overpowering the design.

Between the sweater-knit stenciling, the soft stitched details, and the soothing color palette, this Day Six card gives me all the cozy winter feels. It’s frosty, fun, and wonderfully festive.
